Joanna Boynton, CFP® and I had a busy week with regards to the Purebred Hereford herd. On the Homestead Ranch we welcomed our newest calf, Patch (notice the brown patch on his face). All the other cows are pregnant and due within the next month.
At the Yeehaw Junction Ranch, we had weaned the calves at the last round up and all went well. It was now time to do some pregnancy checking on the mamas, in addition to giving the Herd their shots and apply the fly repellent.
For those cows that we could not identify for sure if they were pregnant, we put them into a 65 acre fenced in area with the two bulls, to make the magic happen. All the remaining heifers (female calves that have not given birth), steers (male bull calves that met the fate of a tight rubber band), and the pregnant cows are on the rest of the ranch.
